I inherited the class as a TL but remade it as a TF. Now there’s a brainstorming session where students pick topics to study and the syllabus gets filled in based on that.

During Immersion semester, we are required to create a lesson plan and teach a concept to our fellow students that pertains to what we are doing

This program was through Colby-Sawyer College. I was an RA for a program that took First Semester Freshman abroad!

Nicole and I had classes reading the same book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: Biochemistry (her) and Health and Illness in American History (me). Our students collaborated on a pressbook that would be a kind of Wikipedia/reader’s guide for the book from history & biochemistry knowledges. Popular and successful at least in my class!

Doing an activity with a group and then writing about it builds community.

My area of expertise leaving grad school was artificial intelligence and I have only taught that course once. I will never teach that class againbecause I am no longer in Computer Science

teaching language arts and sometimes talking about 8th grade things like gross food and body things.

When I was a college student I was told a few times what I knew or didn’t know, but they had no idea what I had already experienced.
