Reflection on COVID:
A calendar comes home from school. Dated March 13.
Home Ec., Gym, Science, English, Reading, and Math. Geography lessons and silly songs from Anamaniac’s Countries of the World- circa 1993. Remote piano lessons and phone calls with PES teachers and zoom with friends. Lunch with Mo Willems- art class.
Gardens bloom from the plants grown for science experiments. We learn Coke is an excellent fertilizer. The Vegetable drawers burst with produce. No one needs 15 cherry tomato plants. We all learn to sew face masks and invent games with them. “They are Stink Protectors, and we shall wear them to catch stinky monsters!” “Mom, I made you breakfast!” Eggs and coffee served up hot three hours before the alarm goes off. Home Ec ., kind of, pays off.
I will always be grateful for the extra time with these boys, but I am so glad to be sending them back to school this fall!
