Elisabeth Johnston

University of Connecticut and her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Early Childhood Education from the University of North Texas. Elisabeth teaches a variety of courses for the Habits of Mind Experience program such as Play and Learning in Early Childhood, a Wellness Connection course, and Tackling a Wicked Problem. In recent years, Elisabeth’s work focuses on making changes to her pedagogy by considering how to provide more student agency and flexibility within a project-based learning approach. Elisabeth reflects periodically on her teaching practice on her blog, Pedagogy, Play, & Practice.

Prior to joining the Plymouth State faculty in 2014, Elisabeth was an Assistant Professor of Elementary/Early Childhood Education at Slippery Rock University. She has worked with young children in a variety of roles including teaching second grade at a gifted and talented magnet school in Texas and co-developing an afterschool program centered on playing games to support learners’ mathematical development in grades 2-5.
