Presenter: Alison Mitchell

I will share an assignment and module I experimented with in my Fall 2023 semester Social Work Research Methods course. I decided to tackle the generative AI, like ChatGPT, head-on through the lens of evaluating our sources of information. In class, we spent the first 6 weeks of the semester examining how we know what we know, talking about different sources of knowledge and knowledge generation, as a lead in to the content for the rest of the semester, understanding Social Work research methodology. I will share the culminating assignment from that introductory module, as well as lessons learned. Depending on needs and interest in the group, I envision a shared discussion about how we could adapt the assignment and an examination of the strengths and limitations of generative AI into our courses.
