OER Review & Adoption Grants

These are grants for PSU instructors who are interested in reducing the cost of textbooks in one of their courses, and whose textbook needs could potentially be filled by converting to OER.

OER Review Grants

Who is eligible PSU instructors who currently use a commercial textbook in one or more of their courses.
Description Review an open textbook that could be a possible replacement for the commercial textbook that you use. The textbook must be approved by the Open CoLab. If you would like us to select a textbook for your review, we are happy to do that as well.
Deliverable A review (400 words or more) of the open textbook explaining its strengths and weaknesses, and offering your ideas on how it could be helpful to PSU faculty in your field who want to incorporate more open resources into their courses. Review will be posted publicly on the CoLab website under an open license. Review due by May 1, 2023.

OER Adoption Grants

Who is eligible PSU instructors who currently use a commercial textbook in one or more of their courses.
Description Swap out a commercial textbook for the open textbook of your choice and achieve cost reduction in student expense for learning materials in that course. This grant is for swaps that are made for Spring 2023 courses only.
Deliverable Evidence from Banner showing original cost and new cost and copy of syllabus with OER addition.
Grant amount $250 paid upon receipt of deliverable

Applications are taken on a rolling basis and grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone who fits the requirements is eligible to apply.

OER Review & Adoption Grants are intended for people to make simple conversions from commercial textbooks to open textbooks (rather than more complicated OER creation or curation); we recognize that this can still take faculty time and labor, and that these swaps can have significant positive impact on student success.
