An emergent exploration of critical instructional design.
Step One
Consider the words and phrases that come to mind when you describe what you think learning should look and feel like. In the space below, record as many words and phrases that come to mind. Do not limit yourself to what you think is acceptable or generally “approved” as words to describe learning.
Step Two
Words that appear on both lists
Words that are all my own
Words that I would add from the document. . .and Why?
Word | Why |
---|---|
discover | i like this word b/c it gets at the “journey” piece of learning that I believe in |
choose | i like anytime students are given choice! |
modify | i’m less interested in modify as an outcome and more interested in it as a way of students choosing their own way |
manipulate | i want students to manipulate what they learn and make it something that matters to them |
examine | examining seems like a good thing :-) |
question | question everything! |
create | who doesn’t like to create! |
design | more of us should think about and do design |
rearrange | i like the idea of students being able to rearrange the components of a course to make it make sense for them — prob not so much as a “learning outcome” |
synthesize | i’ve always loved the word synthesize. i don’t think we use it enough and talk about what it actually looks like. |
Words that I disliked from the document. . .and Why?
Word | Why |
---|---|
comply | because it’s gross |
most of the rest | they’re fine but they don’t really inspire me so I wonder what they feel/sound like to students |
