Legacy Pedagogy Baggage

Shaking Off Vestiges of Old

In Legacy Pedagogy Baggage, Matthew R Morris reminds us to acknowledge and lay down the pedagogical ‘baggage’ that we carry with us. What is your own ‘legacy pedagogy baggage’?
• I still retain an older approach/model to assessment; with quizzes, problem sets, exams – I often wonder I there are more impactful ways of assessment • ‘I learned it this way, so you can too!” Just because I learned it a certain doesn’t mean it will work for all – or that certain topics still hold the same relevancy!

What would you need to help you lay it down?

• I think I could integrate more qualitative assessment into my current course (if it didn’t increase my grading time). • New teaching approaches that do a better job of integrating the tools and technology that my students are likely to encounter professionally

What would you pick up instead?

• I would need viable alternative assessment practices and the institutional support to implement them • New evidence backed methods to teach old concepts
