For this exercise, rewrite your teaching statement for a new audience: your students.

What would you put in this statement to help your students understand who you are as a teacher, how you approach the design or your courses, and what you hope for them? Regardless of whether you choose to share this with your students in the future, this is an opportunity to reflect upon your teaching philosophy for the audience it impacts the most.

 

 

I will do my best to…..

  • Present material to you in a way that is engaging.
  • Provide opportunities for you to interact with the course content in ways that help you to be the best learner you can be.
  • Provide feedback to your work as quickly as possible.
  • Answer your questions the best I can, or provide you resources to help you discover the answer.
  • Be available to connect with you outside of class to talk about course materials.
  • I will do my best to help you overcome the personal barriers to your learning.
  • I will respect you as a person and a learner.
  • I will graciously accept constructive feedback and welcome conversations about how I can make things better for you and the other students in our class.
  •  I will consider your thoughts about when assignments should be turned in, and I will be flexible if you are unable to meet the targeted date.
  • I will trust that when you miss class that you have a valid reason.

  • Attend class regularly and engage in the work we are doing.
  • Put forth your best effort in your work.
  • Communicate with me when you need help with the course content.
  • Utilize me as a “trusted adult” if you are encountering difficulties in life.
  • Trust that I am doing my best to be a good teacher and mentor.
  • Participate in a mutually respectful relationship with me.
