Portfolio Part: It’s a love/hate relationship

I know that technology isn’t going to go away and honestly I do love the tools we have access to and how we can utilize different tools to increase student engagement instead of just being a “talking head” in the front of the room but… technology is only good when it works and is only as good as the person who is using it. If you are a technology hater having access to technological tools isn’t a positive, hence the Love/Hate relationship. I love how technology has made it easier for me to convey information to students either synchronously or asynchronously but I hate it for the same reasons. I don’t want students to be asynchronous I want them to be present in real time interacting with myself and their classmates.

I enjoyed reading other participants experiences and opinions regarding technology. I was inspired, validated, amused and even confused by some of the postings. All kept me engaged, I found myself thinking differently about a number of the readings after seeing the thoughts of others.

My favorite from the module was finally getting to put my tech tool out into the universe, I have wanted the communication interpreter to exist from the time when I was an undergrad, then worked in healthcare and even now as an instructor who often sits in on meetings with people who used too many sophisticated words to say what could be have been said in plain language. Here’s hoping someone in the universe creates this.

I’ve digressed… but have I? After reading some of the different articles I am even more aware now that when asking students to use a specific tool I need to be able to use it myself or even better I should be open to an alternative to the technology that I have suggested even if it is not technology as we currently know it.
