By writing personal reflections, reading some resources, and interacting with other colleagues, I hope to reassess my teaching practice. I have already started wondering how to create a balance between caring for my students and caring for myself. Daily, time seems not to be enough to accomplish all the tasks at hand. However, I’ve noticed a pattern of putting my needs last to fulfill my obligations. It ranges from not eating properly, to not scheduling some downtime. I’m constantly worrying about my to-do list and feeling overwhelmed with my workload.
Hopefully, this course will allow me to thoroughly explore what I’m doing and take the concept of care and equity to another level. It’s hard to take care of others when we do not treat ourselves with the same compassion. Just acknowledging that the past two years have challenged every core belief and behavior I’ve ever had, it’s a good start.
Discovering ways to create a balanced teaching practice is one of my main goals in this course because, at the moment, the scale is tilted to one side.
