ORIENTATION

Design Forward

An emergent exploration of critical instructional design

Resources for Study

For this module, we have assembled a selection of resources related to the various modules of Design Forward; they should give you a sampling of the kinds of readings you’re likely to explore if you continue in other modules.

There are no required readings for the Orientation module, but we encourage you to practice annotations with the Alsop piece. You may wish to explore the other readings, as well.

Annotation

We will be making use of Hypothes.is for group annotation of resources. You’ll need to follow these steps to participate in annotation activity:

  1. If you don’t have a Hypothes.is account signup for one now. If you do, make sure you know your username and password
  2. Login to Hypothesis with your account.
  3. Join the Design Forward Hypothes.is annotation group. When you visit this link, you should see a button to join.
  4. Visit module resources using the links on this page.
  5. Begin annotating! Your contributions will be visible to members of the Design Forward Hypothes.is annotation group.

Group Resources

These are for everyone to read/review and annotate:

Stop Three: Practicing Annotation

Each module includes list of readings related to the topics. Readings are organized into two categories: Group and Choice. Group resources are for everyone to read and annotate. The Choice list will be longer, and you should choose at least one item that looks interesting to you to read/annotate.

For this module, we’re mainly interested in getting you used to the annotation process. In the green box to the right, you will find instructions for signing up/logging into Hypothesis and joining DF annotation group.

Follow the steps and then visit the Alsop piece and make at least one annotation. When you open the piece, the Hypothesis sidebar will appear on the right. If you click and select any text, you’ll see an option to either “Annotate” or “Highlight” your selection. Highlights are private to just you; annotations are visible to whomever you choose. Notice that in addition to adding new annotations, you can also reply to those that others have made. Refer back to the Spaces and Tools topic video for more information about Hypothesis.

When you are done with this stop in the Orientation journey, you will have
