The core modules of Design Forward cover are designed to stand alone while also living in conversation with other DF programming. Participants may move through modules in whatever order matches their own particular goals.
Introduction to Pedagogy
This module is designed for faculty who are newer to teaching and would like the opportunity to think more about pedagogy in a supported, collegial environment.
Care & Equity: Centering Humans
This module is for those who want to think more deeply about how the spaces they design for education can best support learners and promote justice and equity. Topics will include the decolonization of the classroom, understanding student agency, fostering co-constructive mindsets for course design, and exploring alternative assessment techniques.
Formats & Modalities: Online and Beyond
This module is for faculty who are exploring a change of course modality (switching between F2F, hybrid, online asynch, online synch, hyflex, etc.). We will talk about the experiences and affordances of different formats and how to create courses that respect these differences. Throughout, we will make sure our design and preparation reflect our own personal teaching and design philosophies.
Technology & Tools: Intentional Choices
This module is an opportunity to consider technology tools through a more intentional lens--and to consider how your choice of technology and tools can support or thwart your teaching and design philosophies. Come prepared to discuss your previous experience with technology in the classroom and your concerns and goals going forward.
Introduction to Critical Instructional Design
In this module, faculty will have an opportunity to think more carefully about the design of education, particularly when it is informed by critical pedagogy.
