What did you learn that was new or surprising?
I learned about the new approach to pedagogy and how important it is for authority figures like teachers to treat their students like equals and be open to learning from them, too.
What did you learn that you are most excited about?
I am most excited about taking this new approach with me and applying it into the way I learn. Not necessarily in the classroom, but where I have an authority role over others. In a way, I already practice this approach with my team where I am a captain. The only difference between me and my peers is the ability I have to talk to the refs and make decisions on behalf of my team, but in every other aspect we are all equals. It’s important to me to let my team know that everyone is welcome to speak up and help better the team, because everyone’s voice is powerful.
What did you read that you disagreed with and why?
There wasn’t much I disagreed with while working through the partner prep sight. In fact, it opened my eyes a little bit to new experiences.
What did you learn about the values and priorities of the CoLab?
I learned that the CoLab values our opinions and is always open to new ideas. I learned how much the CoLab CARES about all students and how the CoLab really believes in us. The priorities of the CoLab are making sure everyone is always learning and growing from new experiences.
What questions do you still have?
What is the biggest challenge the CoLab experiences with their students?
What kind of work do you want to do in the CoLab?
I want to share my experiences with sport and how they have shaped me into who I am today and bring the “team building” aspect of sports teams into the office.
What skills do you want to develop?
I want to develop more communication skills and my problem solving skills. I would like to be more confident trying to solve problems on my own before asking for help. This way I can be more confident trying to help others when they have a question as well!
When you picture your graduation day, what do you hope you’ll take from working in the CoLab to your future career/ field?
Being a grad student, I actually already had my graduation day and realized what a unique group of individuals IDS produces. I couldn’t be happier with my major choice and the ability to work alongside these amazing individuals. I want to take with me the communication skills needed to work with and show others the benefits of being interdisciplinary.
