Participants will review their engagement in Partner Prep, reflect on the experience, and set goals for their work in the CoLab. Students will be onboarded into initial project groups
Participation Guide
It’s time to reflect on what you’ve learned so far in CoSA Partner Prep and choose your project for the academic year. Before you do that, though, we have a little more to say about experimentation, mistakes, and failure. Although not always pleasant, these are necessary parts of learning. In the CoLab, we particularly believe in the power of getting things wrong and trying something else.
Your work in the CoLab might take you out of your comfort zone and might require you to do work you’ve never done before. It’s valuable, then, to consider your own relationship to being uncomfortable. What is your gut reaction when you don’t know the answer to something? When you get something wrong? When something goes differently than you expected? When someone gives you feedback? This week, when you are reflecting and choosing your project(s), consider your relationship to uncertainty and failure — particularly how you experiment, research, reflect, regroup, get support/ advice.
Schedule
Readings/ Resources
- “He Fixes Radios by Thinking” from “Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman!” (Feynmen) (just the first story!)
- “Train Wrecks: 3M National Teaching Fellows Explore Creating Learning and Generative Responses from Colossal Failures” (Strean, Mayer, Brooks)
Questions
Activities
- Project Selections: Read through the descriptions of each project/ track! Your mentor will provide training throughout the year to prepare you for the track/project’s work. Choose ones that sound exciting and interesting to you or that will allow you to practice a skill that you want to work on! Push yourself outside of your comfort zone! If you’d like to do more than one, that’s fine! Please only choose more than one if you work more than 4 hours per week. After you select a project, make a Mentor Meeting with the CoLab Staff Lead (info in the Project Selections document). Make sure to complete the first page of your Engagement Plan before that meeting!
- Engagement Plan: Fill out the form below to get a link to your Engagement Plan. A link to the document should be sent to you, but you can also find it in this folder in the CoLab Team. Read through the document and complete sections 1-3 (stopping at 4. Reflection on Mentor Meeting).
