CARE AND EQUITY

Framing and Practicing Equity

Equity is at the heart of why so many of us pursue careers in education. We hope that learning is a path towards building a more equitable world, and that college can be a place where all students can learn both to make a positive impact and to create the life they desire. But equity is not something we can achieve by following a prescribed set of best practices. Because contexts are dynamic and students are diverse, we need to learn to think deeply about equity in order to continually examine, rethink, and improve our learning environments. We focus on mindsets and frameworks, and constantly consider aligning our teaching practices with our path towards equity.

“Design Bites” are a special kind of portfolio post. They’re an opportunity for us to share practical design ideas that we’ve tried or are planning to try. As DF participants add more Bites, we will assemble a library of these that will be searchable by type, tags, and modules.

Describe a particular design approach you have taken or plan to take. Give as much information as you think is necessary for someone else to try/adapt/experiment with your idea.
