This is a poster I made for my office that has led to some great conversations with students about the importance of fundamentals ( in music or otherwise ) and how critical it is to not overlook the importance of solid foundations.
I often point to in in the times when students may be feeling overwhelmed, directionless or daunted by the seemingly endless areas requiring attention.

I’ll suggest we may reduce our attention to these five broad areas, and at any time ask which needs our attention, and maybe a broader perspective with ” head, hands and heart” , ultimately aspiring to find perhaps one area that we could place our attention on that has a global effect in our learning/ musicality, etc.
Not sure I have a metaphor here, but wanted to share in any case, another take on “Less is More” , and the value of broadened perspectives.
