Research Across the “AI Divide”

At Each Table

Choose a research question for the table.
Break into two or three groups of 2-4 people.

One Research Question, 2 (or 3) Approaches

Each group should choose one of the research approaches and spend 10-15 minutes discovering as much as you can about your research question.

Approach One: "Simple" GENAI

You may use “basic” GENAI ChatBots: ChatGPTCoPilot, Claude, Gemini, etc.

Approach Two: "Advanced" GENAI

(optional)

You may use specialized GENAI research tools: Elicit, Consensus, etc.

Approach Three: Traditional

You may use “traditional” research tools: Library databases, Google Scholar, etc.

Practice applying SIFT to your results

Discuss @ Your Table

  • Compare your research results. How different was the experience and the results? What does this suggest about what students need to know?
  • Discuss your research processes. How easy/difficult was it to complete the research with your given restraint? What implication does this have for students?
  • How did you approach using SIFT with your results? Were there any significant takeaways from this?
  • What are the biggest concerns you have about the use of GENAI for research? What do you see as the biggest opportunities? How can we prepare our students for both?
