The IDS Scholarship: Now Fundraising!
We are raising money to create an endowed scholarship for Interdisciplinary Studies students.
Since 1974, the Interdisciplinary Studies program at Plymouth State has allowed students to construct a major that meets their intellectual interests and career objectives, providing them with an alternative to the existing majors already available at the university. With a team of advisors, students design their own path, limited only by interest, imagination, and energy.
IDS can be a game-changer for students — the majority of IDS students have at least a 3.0 GPA, yet every year in surveys of graduating seniors, more than half tell us they considered leaving Plymouth State before they found Interdisciplinary Studies.
In recent years, we have averaged about 100 Interdisciplinary Studies majors, with students creating programs in Adventure Tourism, Dance Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sociology, Health Advocacy & Education, Marketing for Sustainable Planning, Medical Illustration, Psychology of Music, and many more.
Though the number of IDS majors has grown substantially in recent years, we have never had a scholarship for IDS students. Indeed, some students who have discipline-specific scholarships lose them when they change majors. Given the expense of a college education in the United States today, it is important for us to establish a scholarship for IDS students so that we can make sure the program remains affordable to students who will benefit from it.
Our goal is to establish an endowed scholarship for IDS students, with the endowment ensuring that students will be supported well into the future. To do this, we need to raise at least $25,000.
