Introduction to IDS

Weeks 8-end

Week 8 (3/23 & 3/25)

Tuesday

  1. Review of calendar and remaining work
  2. Freewrite: How We Should Spend Our Time Until the End of the Term
  3. Teams discussion about how we should spend our time until the end of the term. We will have this discussion in the Class & Readings Discussion channel.
  4. Overview of advising
  5. Work time

Homework:

  1. If you haven’t submitted your IDS application materials yet, you should work on those before anything else.
  2. Download the Advising Worksheet. Fill out as much as you can. (A lot of this is covered in your Planning Guide, so feel free to cut and paste from there.)
  3. Begin work on polishing your ePort and working on the modules you have chosen.

Thursday

8.25am-9.10am: In-person advising

This will be entirely in the classroom, no Zoom. If you are able to come to the classroom, bring your completed advising sheet and we will discuss it and give you your PIN.

9.10-9.40am: Zoom: I Just Need My PIN!

If you had no trouble filling out your advising sheet and you feel confident about your classes for next term, stop by our Zoom classroom from 9.10-9.40. Please email your completed advising sheet to Matt (macheney@plymouth.edu) beforehand.

I Need Help!

If you need to discuss anything about registration or advising in any depth, you have a couple options:

    1. Schedule time with Matt [click this link]
    2. Visit the CoLab Virtual Lounge

(If you do this, you do not need to come to class Thursday.)

Week 9 (3/30 & 4/1)

Tuesday

Planning for the future of you!

  1. Modules review
  2. Finding nonmajor courses:
  3. Planning guide
    • Take another look at your planning guide. Are there areas that you would like to fill in with more detail?
    • Note that after your application is approved, your planning guide is primarily for your own use. Changes you make don’t need to be approved. If you keep the planning guide up to date, it will be a useful tool during advising and registration in the future.
  4. The future! Consider writing an ePort post about what you hope, need, and expect from your future. (Define “your future” however you want: next month, next year, next decade…) How will you get there?
