SUMMARY:Across the Curriculum Series: Information Literacy
DESCRIPTION:The “Across the Curriculum” series is inspired by the Integrated Cluster Model. The faculty and staff of the Lamson Academic Unit have collaborated to create this series\, which aims to help us integrate curriculum\, infuse Cluster Learning throughout our courses\, and align our approaches so that students benefit from a cohesive academic experience. \nPast Events: \nAcross the curriculum Series: Digital Habits of Mind – February 10th 2022 \nAcross the Curriculum Series: Writing as a tool for learning across disciplines – February 21st 2022 \n  \nThis Event  \nAcross the Curriculum Series: Information Literacy – March 15th 2022  \nInformation literacy comprises the set of skills and knowledge that enable people to seek\, evaluate\, use and create information effectively. Information literacy supports students’ academic goals as well as their ability to access and assess information about their non-academic lives – their health\, environment\, work\, and government. As such it is important that students both strengthen and learn to transfer these skills and knowledge across different domains. In this workshop we will discuss the information literacy concepts that are already present in our courses\, how they interact with the Digital Habits of Mind\, and how to help students connect those concepts across courses and to their non-academic lives. Facilitated by Librarian Christin Wixson. \n  \nOops! We could not locate your form.

SUMMARY:Women's Herstory Month Event: The Remedial Herstory Project
DESCRIPTION:The Remedial Herstory Project is a New Hampshire based nonprofit founded and led by Plymouth State professor Kelsie Eckert and other women educators and advocates. The RHP is dedicated to developing and providing inquiry-based learning materials on women’s history free to educators. In support of its mission\, the RHP produces media\, and provides resources and professional development in history for educators. Come get background on the RHP from Kelsie\, including details on the types of resources they offer and how you could use them with students. We will also discuss the more philosophical perspective on why including diverse women’s achievements in our classes (regardless of subject) is important. Join Kelsie to learn more! \nKelsie Brook Eckert (she/her) is an award-winning history teacher and the founder and President of the Remedial Herstory Project. She has taught high school social studies for the better part of a decade and is now the Coordinator of Social Studies Education at Plymouth State University. ?She was the 2020 Gilder Lehrman NH Teacher of the year and 2019 Nominee\, a 2016 Normandy Scholar\, the 2015 NH National History Day Teacher of the Year\, and serves as President of the NH Council for Social Studies (NHCSS). She earned a Masters in Social Studies Education and was the recipient of several academic awards including Graduate Assistant of the Year\, and later Outstanding Graduate Alumni Award. \nThis event is sponsored by the Plymouth State University Center of Diversity\, Equity\, and Social Justice\, facilitated by Chief Diversity Officer Alberto Ramos\, and co-hosted by the CoLab!
