SUMMARY:Teaching with Equity and Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:How can our course designs and teaching practices evolve to respond proactively and effectively to social demands for equity and inclusion? We’ll jump straight into a difficult conversation\, but come out with inclusive practices that you can implement regardless of your course and discipline! In this interactive workshop\, we will collectively contribute to addressing tough questions and co-creating answers\, suggestions\, tips\, and resources. Open to the Plymouth State Community. To request the Zoom link for this event\, fill out the form below. \nYour Facilitators: \nSuzanne M Gaulocher PhD\, MPH (she/her/hers) Assistant Professor of Public Health & Associate Director\, Center for Healthy Communities\, Plymouth State University; Suzanne holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she was a part of the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment focusing on the overlap of human and environmental health. Her research and teaching centers around the intersection between human health and the environment with a focus on community engagement\, social justice\, and health equity.   John Martin PhD (he/him/his)  Active Teaching Program Manager\, UW-Madison DoIT Academic Technology; John currently teaches and develops socioculturally-rich teaching and learning practices at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His doctoral research in Curriculum and Instruction broadly considered the learning affordances of video games\, and specifically focused on learner-designed place-based mobile games. Drawing on a background and interest in technology\, art\, writing\, and outdoor education\, and a commitment to environmental and social sustainability\, John investigates tools of inquiry and expression that promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the social and physical space(s) we inhabit. \n \n Request Meeting Link\n \n\n Request Meeting Link \n × \n\nRequest Meeting Link: Teaching for Equity & Inclusion\n\nName*\n \n First\n \n Last\n \nEmail*\n \n \nFrom your email address\, it looks like you may not be affiliated with Plymouth State University. SUMMARY:The Power of Place: How Place-Centered Education is the Secret to raising a new Generation of Empowered Students
DESCRIPTION:Place-Based Education (PBE)\, so named by David Sobel\, is a unique teaching technique that has been developing within the educational community. More than ever\, teachers are looking to provide students with not only education\, but the skills necessary to make use of it. PBE fills this need by using both the natural landscape and human communities around a school to inspire meaningful\, project-based learning. Such an approach allows education to be useful\, it helps children develop a bond with their community and it empowers children to be advocates for change in the communities that help to raise them. Join us for a night of exploration into PBE as a pedagogy and bring your unique expertise to discuss how it can be applied in the field. \nThe Webinar will be facilitated by Kady Hoffman. She is currently a Senior Place-Based Education major at Plymouth State University. Over the past three years\, her program has included an in-depth study of elementary education\, adventure education\, environmental science and social science. She has a strong background in the environmental education community and has taught in programs all across New England. Currently\, Kady works as an assistant teacher at Mountain Village Charter School. Her dream is to someday own her own environmental education center which specializes at helping people to enjoy nearby human and natural communities. \n \n Request Meeting Link\n \n\n Request Meeting Link \n × \n\nRequest Meeting Link: The Power of Place\n\nName*\n \n First\n \n Last\n \nEmail*\n \n \nFrom your email address\, it looks like you may not be affiliated with Plymouth State University.
