SUMMARY:Teaching the "Classroomless" Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a 60 minute workshop about teaching outside of the confines of a standard classroom. This program is for teaching faculty as well as those of us who teach students through other mechanisms on campus: one-shot drop in visits\, advising\, campus jobs\, etc.\n\nThe CoLab will provide a brief introductory presentation about the major issues surrounding this kind of work. Participants will engage in a conversation about how this kind of teaching fits into the larger landscape of the University\, how it intersects with “traditional” teaching\, and what innovative design practices we could bring to this work to help elevate it.\n\nLunch provided.

SUMMARY:Design for Public Writing (Series)
DESCRIPTION:This series is an open writing group for faculty interested in writing for the general public about the purpose of higher education. The group will engage in the following activities: \n\na kickoff meeting (facilitated by the CoLab) on September 19th to talk about the purpose of public writing: who are we writing for? what do we need to know in order to be better at public writing? how is this practice related to the writing practices we teach our students and the design of teaching these practices?\nbi-weekly 60-90 minute drop-in writing time (October 2nd\, 17th\, and 30th and November 14th). Check-in quickly and then focus on body doubling for writing.\nend of semester 90 minute reading for anyone who wants to share their works in progress (date/time TBD by the group)\nOptional: one-shot digital publication or print zine of works produced (the CoLab will handle the collection of work and production of the product)\n\nLight breakfast and beverages provided.

DESCRIPTION:This is a series of three conversations between the CoLab and interested faculty about how we incorporate values\, vibrance\, vulnerability\, visibility\, vision\, and voice into the design of our teaching. \n\n\n\nEach conversation will engage with two of these topics with pre-readings provided by the CoLab to help center the discussion. Expertise in these topics are emergent; no one right now claims to know everything about this work. Rather\, these conversations will be an opportunity for us to define what we mean and begin to discuss approaches and future work. \n\n\n\nParticipants are invited to share their thoughts about this topic in our working document. \n\n\n\nLight breakfast will be provided on 9/29 & 10/29. Light snacks and drinks provided on 11/18.
