DESCRIPTION:This series is an open writing group for faculty interested in writing for the general public about the purpose of higher education. The group will engage in the following activities: \n\na kickoff meeting (facilitated by the CoLab) on September 19th to talk about the purpose of public writing: who are we writing for? what do we need to know in order to be better at public writing? how is this practice related to the writing practices we teach our students and the design of teaching these practices?\nbi-weekly 60-90 minute drop-in writing time (October 2nd\, 17th\, and 30th and November 14th). Check-in quickly and then focus on body doubling for writing.\nend of semester 90 minute reading for anyone who wants to share their works in progress (date/time TBD by the group)\nOptional: one-shot digital publication or print zine of works produced (the CoLab will handle the collection of work and production of the product)\n\nLight breakfast and beverages provided.

SUMMARY:Designing for Emergent Learning
DESCRIPTION:During this 60-minute workshop\, we will explore how to design for emergent\, flexible\, and unpredictable learning\, particularly the kind inspired by cluster learning. \nThe CoLab will provide a brief presentation about the topic and possible approaches and will facilitate a larger conversation about how faculty are approaching this now\, what challenges they are facing\, and how those challenges might be met. \nBy the end of the workshop\, each participant will have come up with at least one approach to emergent pedagogy they would like to try. Optional follow-up meetings with the CoLab are available to all participants to continue to talk about this topic. \nSnacks and beverages provided

DESCRIPTION:This four-part meeting series is aimed at faculty interested in the intersection of generative AI and teaching & learning. Each week we will focus on a particular reading/issue\, emerging from the interests and concerns of participants. We will record key takeaways\, questions\, or ideas from each meeting with the goal of producing a resource at the end of the semester to share with the larger campus. Possible meeting topics: \n\ntalking to students about AI\ncreating a usable AI classroom policy\nAI across disciplines\nis AI resistance possible and if so what does it look like?\nmaking critical choices about the use of AI for teaching and learning\n\nDetails for October 22 Meeting\nDuring our meeting on Tuesday\, October 7\, we will be tackling the topic of AI resistance. To frame the conversation\, we invite participants to read the following pieces:  \n\nSometimes We Resist AI for Good Reasons\nThe Question All Colleges Should Ask Themselves About AI\n\nLight food and beverages provided.

DESCRIPTION:This hands-on 90 minute workshop is about how we can bring craft into our teaching and academic lives. We will start with a brief presentation/conversation about why this work matters\, how it can be used to unearth things we (and our students) have trouble expressing\, how it can help us in times of uncertainty\,  and how it fits into the larger design of education. \nParticipants will then be able to try creating something for themselves that aligns a particular craft with a particular personal or professional need/goal.
