Pre/Post Reflection

Reflection

Have your students reflect on the difference between two or more formats.

Steps

  1. Before students watch the Playlist of Explanatory Videos, have them write a brief reflection on the difference between a blog post and journal article (or choose another pair of formats.)
  2. Assign the Playlist.
  3. Have them answer the same question again after watching the videos. How have their answers changed?
  4. Alternatively, students individually or in groups can reflect on the following questions for the formats most important to the work of your course:
    • What are your experiences with [format]?
    • What kinds of information is [format] likely to contain?
    • Who typically writes or publishes [format]?
    • Who typically reads/uses [format]?
    • What is the purpose of [format]?

Considerations

These reflection questions could work well as in class discussions rather than written assignments.
