In-Class Exercise, Short Assignment
  • The Fake Out Game provides a set of challenging prompts asking students whether a particular news story or claim is true that few will get right by just guessing.  It then uses that experience of guessing wrong to motivate students to learn some evaluation strategies, which it provides in 3 90-second videos following the questions.  Then students are given another set of prompts that where students practice the skills from the videos and (hopefully) get a better score.
  • PSU’s own Mike Davidson has developed two additional question sets to give students a chance to practice these skills: Conspiracy Rabbit Hole and SIFT – Verifying Online Claims – Racism edition.
