Steps
- Have students work through the Check Please, Starter Course which introduces students to the SIFT evaluation framework.
- Alternatively, Web Literacy for Student Fact-Checkers is a 2021 update to the Check Please, Starter Course with expanded content. It is more of a textbook than a course, but does include several activities.
Considerations
- This resource consists of 5 lessons, beginning with introducing SIFT and proceeding through practice prompts for all the skills of SIFT. The lessons prompt students to keep a notebook to record their processes and reflect on what they discovered. Each lesson takes about 30 minutes to complete, and could work as either in class or homework activity.
- If you are feeling uncertain about what SIFT is all about, consider working through Lesson 1. It is shorter than the others and provides a good overview.
