The Aug. 26th Orientation group was scattered into the library, tasked to find a random book on the shelf that spoke to this prompt of Metaphorical Thinking. The first 5 or so titles I picked up didn’t quite fit the bill. But when I happened upon Wake Up Our Souls, I knew the search was done.<\/p>\n
For me, the heart and soul (yes) of teaching and learning and LIFE is inspiration, passion, enthusiasm. We can all be dead to life if we wish — just go through the motions, get the next thing done on our list, get a paycheck, raise the kids, etc. But that’s not what I want. I don’t think that’s what our students want either. Do students want a class where they just get the next thing done, get the A, and move on? Maybe it looks like that sometimes. But that’s because we have not woken their souls. Perhaps our own soul is asleep, too.<\/p>\n
I want my teaching, and my own learning, to wake my soul, and to wake the souls of the people and students around me.
