More or less technology; definitely more genuine and authentic learning

I am hoping that this module will help me learn more about how to genuinely use technology to enhance learning rather than keep students busy. I am also looking for inclusive ways to engage all students, without overstepping or challenging their sensibilities.

I redesigned my undergraduate class during the pandemic to include more Canvas work and more virtual resources. I am ready to take it to the next level. I already removed some pieces that, once I tried them, I find that students were not resonating with them. I included more short videos and I found that watching them and then going back and “deconstructing” them into ideas to re-emphasize or discuss works well. But engagement and interactions could be better.

I wish I had more time to explore ways to engage students – beyond Q&A, beyond class activities – to generate authentic learning. I have been talking about these things with some students before classes. Learning is deeply personal. They shared how technology takes away from their learning sometimes.

I would love to get some ideas about how to go to the next version of my class design. Some actionable ideas may come just from these activities we will cover in this module.
