Pam's Portfolio:
Written Reflection

Pamela Anneser, Final Reflection

My goals for this course were to learn different teaching techniques from colleagues and through the course activities.  I often use a  tree as my symbol for teaching because it illustrates growth that is established in deep roots. This is my ultimate teaching goal; continually learning so that I can add  to my teaching arsenal.

Always looking for ways to better engage my students, I especially enjoyed the learning word activity. My short list of verbs was a bit embarrassing compared to the Bloom’s list, but I was inspired by the list and numbers of ways to actively help students learn.

The reading “Our HyFlex Experiment: What’s Worked and What Hasn’t,” discusses the challenges and complexity of this style of teaching for instructors, while highlighting the benefits this flexibility allows for students. I enjoyed this article and my colleagues’ annotations.

“Who’s Teaching the Teachers,” is a question I have often asked myself since I began my teaching career in 2003. I went from working in a design studio to teaching with no formal training on how to educate, after many years of self-teaching and learning by mistake, I strongly believe there should be a better system of preparing professors, and greatly appreciate what the CoLab has created.
