“What to Expect” in this course

Description

Kate H. mentioned wanting something a little more . . . warm (?) in her syllabus, re “what to expect.” I have recently been using an activity as part of the “final” – where I ask students to write (in class, on a notecard) a brief bulleted response to this prompt:

“What should students signed up for this class next semester know about this class? What should they expect – from the classwork, from themselves, etc.?”

I have these responses (very lightly edited – they should be more edited but I don’t WANNA) as a link embedded in the central “syllabus” document. I noticed during our syllabus review exercise that so many of the values I was scanning for are articulated by those students in that linked piece of the syllabus materials.
