For the Love of Books

Winters in the part of New Hampshire where I live can be isolating. As an English literature major, I was accustomed to imagining the landscapes, interiors, artifacts and symbolism of literature in interaction with the text alone. But when I discovered William Blake as an undergraduate, with the juxtaposition of text and imagery in his works, I entered a process of reclaiming the imaginative world of childhood. Our Blake professor even taught a course in Blake’s engraving technique utilizing wood block carving and printing, which added a tactile dimension to the visual and verbal!
