AmandaW's Portfolio:
Mini Course Syllabus: Digital Submission

An Analog Mind in a Digital World

Description

There is a consistent and pervasive push for the digital in teaching and learning however, in the courses I’ve taught students are most impacted by activities and assignments that ask them to “go analog”.  Even in my online, asynchronous courses, students report the most engagement and enjoyment with analog experiences.  I wonder how I might be explicit and intentional in the way I use analog experiences with students.

Objectives

Goal
1. Collect and consolidate analog activities I have used in TWP/INCP 2. Get to know colleagues work around play/games/belonging

Resources

Playmeo.com David Littlefield activities Martha’s Design Forward, Davis Grant Workbook Elisabeth’s Johnson’s work on “play” Colleagues assignments and activities (Cathie’s course on Creating Games – Jaime Hannon activities for building community)

Activities

Begin to design a workbook for TWP/INCP students. (Inspired by Martha’s workbook for us)

Assessment

Meet these deliverables (thinking small): – Have (2) coffee chats with colleagues to learn about their work. – Review and compile analog activities into a folder on my desktop.   Meet these deliverables (thinking big): – Complete a first (very rough) draft of a TWP or INCP workbook for review by HoME faculty and CoLab. – Receive feedback from colleagues.

Calendar

Carve out 30 minutes each Wednesday to work on this mini-course.
