Design Forward

Weekly Dispatch: Monday, June 2, 2025

Welcome to this month-long, high-octane experience in Design Forward! Or, if you prefer… Welcome to this month-long, slow and gentle experience in Design Forward!

I am your CoLabbian guide, Robin, and the purpose of this dispatch is to give you some ideas on how to start interacting with our module. It’s pretty important not to let multiple days pass without popping in, because you will become disconnected from the group, and the group will sputter a bit with less participant content. So if you can try to stop by every other day to work, we will all appreciate having new ideas to chat about with each other. But find the rhythm that works for you, whether it’s 15 minutes a day, or every few days for an hour or two. Summers are for recharging and relaxing, so please engage in a way that honors your energy at this special time of year! While DF is a choose-your-own adventure path, here is what I would suggest as you get your feet wet this first week.

Week 1 Recommended Pathway

  • Start at our Topics page. First the first half of June, we will mainly be engaged with “Affordances & Possibilities.” So click on that one and spend 10 minutes reading and watching video. I sure did, because I have zero memory of making that video. Menopause is a bitch, my friends.
  • Next, I would explore the readings on the Resources page. This week, maybe try annotating the Group Resource (which we will all ready),  “The Landscape of Emerging Realities.” If you have any trouble annotating with Hypothesis, use our Teams channel to ask for help! (Note that Hypothesis plays best with Chrome, which drives me nutty as a devoted Firefox user.) Want to read more this week? Dive into the Choice Resources lower on the page, and choose another reading to annotate! And remember, replying to other people’s annotations is a really fun way to engage with your colleagues, including those from past years’ cohorts!
  • Also this week, try answering a question from the Question page! There are a bunch to start with as you experiment with how this all works.
  • I recommend you do 1-2 Activities per week if possible. Remember, you can do them online or do them in your paper workbook and then upload a photo to your portfolio if you prefer! They don’t take long, and don’t have to be done with any kind of “perfection.” Just use your brain, and have fun.

Try to spend at least 2 hours on the module this week, otherwise things sort of languish for us all, and you will have a mad rush later in the month.

Try not to spend more time on the module than you spend feeding your soul with summer joy!

If this module provides you with summer joy, well then WOW THAT IS REALLY SOMETHING!
