I have been working at PSU for the past 10 years. I began when I was working on my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. For me the teaching was an essential element of my experience in understanding the (alway circuitous) path to successful learning. Early in my teaching experience (here, I had been working as a special education teacher in K-12 education for 5 years before I got here), I understood both that I needed and wanted more information about teaching, learning, and education and that to do that effectively I need more knowledge. For me, the most effective way to get that knowledge was a combination of hands-on experience (teaching) and earning my CAGS and Ed.D. in higher education administration here at PSU. My passion in teaching has always been to facilitate learning for students whose learning capacity is not typical. I adopted accessibility and inclusion as strategies early-on in my teaching experience and brought those philosophies with me to higher education. One of the places where I found my joy was in the Ascent and Pathfinder program because of the variety of challenges that working with these students brought to my experience. I recently became the Program Coordinator for the Pathfinder Program and shifted the direction of the program away from recruitment to retention.
