What should I do if I need to change my major but still hope to graduate on time?

Five Things to Know

  1. Technically, you can change your major up to your last semester at PSU.
  2. Many students change their majors multiple times during their time in college.
  3. Our number one goal is to help you graduate on-time!
  4. If you’ve determined your chosen major won’t work and you can’t find another one that will, consider switching to Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
  5. With an IDS major, you can preserve many of your already-earned credits in a new major that you design.

A Deeper Dive

  1. The first step when considering changing a major should always be to reach out to an advisor for help.
  2. If you don’t want to talk with an advisor in a major program, you can always talk with someone from the Academic & Career Advising Center.
  3. If you are interested in bringing together multiple disciplines into a single major, be sure to talk with the folks in the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program.
  4. You can learn more about IDS at our “How do I create my own major at PSU?” WRAAPP resource.
