The Brain Knows All

I want to use materials in the Spinelli Archives and Special Collections. What do I do next?

Five Things to Know

  1. Materials in the Spinelli Archives cover topics relating to the history of PSU and the surrounding region, including books, documents, maps, audio, video, digital files, artifacts, and more.
  2. Archives and special collections are great places to find primary sources for research projects. They contain resources that are unique, unpublished, and not widely available.
  3. You don’t have to know what materials you want to use! The Archivist will help determine which materials relate to your research topic before you visit the Archives.
  4. Collections may be viewed in-person by making an appointment via the website to visit the Spinelli Archives.
  5. To get started, fill out an Archives Request Form on the website and the Archivist will get back to you.

A Deeper Dive

  1. Archives typically are organized and cataloged as collections of materials rather than as single items like in libraries.
  2. Some Spinelli Archives materials have been digitized and are freely available online.
  3. To see what collections are available, go to the Spinelli Archives website.
  4. To see what books are in the Spinelli Archives, choose “Special Collections (Upper)” as Location under the Library catalog search bar.
  5. But remember, many collections are not yet findable online, so please submit an Archives Request Form to find out what else is available!
