How do I make and share a recording for a class project?

Five Things to Know

  1. If you are in Lamson Learning Commons behind the front desk and next to the bathrooms, you will find the Studio Station, a USB-powered recording studio. If you have a USB drive, plug it in and follow the instructions on the wall. You will be recording in no time!
  2. Through Learning Space Technologies (LST), you will also find reservable equipment like cameras, DSLRs, microphones, and tripods.
  3. If you are recording a presentation for class, and you have a camera on your laptop you can use Kaltura Capture or Zoom.
  4. If you have the latest version of PowerPoint, you can use it to record a presentation. However, you will have to upload it for your instructor or others to see (you can use Kaltura for this.).
  5. If you need to share your media in Canvas, you will use the MyMedia system.

A Deeper Dive

  1. Through Learning Space Technologies (LST), you can find reservable equipment like cameras, DSLRs, microphones, and tripods. If you visit my.plymouth.edu scroll down until you see “Technology Resources” and then click “Equipment Loans.” This will bring you to the equipment reservation system.  You can reserve equipment a few days in advance.
  2. If you are recording a presentation, and you have a camera on your laptop you have two main options, Kaltura Capture or Zoom. (If you are using Zoom, choose “Record to Cloud” for the best results.) Both Kaltura and Zoom are great for presentations. Kaltura is useful if you are working by yourself or with a group in person. Zoom is better if you are working on a group presentation remotely.
  3. The latest PowerPoint app also allows for recording. If you don’t have PowerPoint, you can download it (and other Microsoft software).
  4. If you need to share a video in Canvas, you should first make sure your media is available and uploaded to MyMedia. If you used Kaltura Capture, it will appear there automatically.
  5. In Canvas, you can add media to the course’s Media Gallery, if your instructor has enabled this feature. You can also embed media in a discussion forum post or an assignment.
