Career Management
Identify and articulate one’s skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to the position desired and career goals, and identify areas necessary for professional growth. The individual is able to navigate and explore job options, understands and can take the steps necessary to pursue opportunities, and understands how to self-advocate for opportunities in the workplace.2National Association for Colleges and Employers. Professionalism

The individual demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior, acts responsibly with the interests of the larger community in mind, and is able to learn from his/her mistakes.3National Association for Colleges and Employers. You are uniquely you; and you are worthy of fully realizing all the hopes, dreams, and goals you carry in your heart. No doubt, it can be overwhelming to think about future career goals in attempts to navigate your trajectory. There are so many variables and unknowns to consider, which can contribute to confusion and self-doubt. However, envisioning what comes after graduation from PSU can also be fun and exciting. With just a shift in perspective and the awareness that you are in control of your journey, each program experience or leadership position that you encounter offers an integral stepping stone to where you are headed.
With each experience, you have the opportunity to learn more about yourself and your sense of purpose and passions. We are always growing! Approaching your journey with a growth mindset will allow you to develop new understandings and competencies. As Carol Dweck states in her book, Mindset, “The growth mindset is the belief that abilities can be cultivated” (p. 50).4Dweck, C. S. (2006). Mindset: The new psychology of success. New York, NY: Random House.Just because you have yet to master a specific skill, doesn’t mean that you can’t. With dedication and persistence, you can accomplish your goals. As you evolve personally and professionally, it is important to reflect on the unique abilities and wisdom you bring to the world.
